Isata Lakoh
2017 Award Recepient
My name is Isata Lakoh. I am 20 years old, and I am a freshman currently attending Sheridan College. I attended four full years of high school at Port Credit Secondary School, graduating with a high school diploma and an Advanced Learning Strategies Award that recognized my academic achievement and contribution to the school community.
While focusing on my studies, I was also able to donate my time by volunteering at a community nursing home in Mississauga. I received a certificate of selflessness for donating money towards the Hospital for Sick Children, took part in an Ebola Fundraiser, displayed student artwork at the HJA Brown Student Center for Black History Month, and helped participate in and organize the 2015 Port Credit Art Show Gallery.
I am currently studying to become a social worker, focusing on children and youth, so I can use my abilities to offer support to the Sickle Cell community. After I graduate from Sheridan College with my diploma, I plan to pursue my education at university to obtain my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the field of social work. I am delighted to know I am one of the recipients of the Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Scholarship.
I promise to work hard so that I can be awarded another scholarship next year.
Thank you to the Scholarship Committee, who are an integral part of this great cause.
