Ayanna Joseph-Stanislaus

2017 Award Recepient

My name is Ayanna. I was diagnosed with sickle cell when I was six months old, and ever since then I have been determined not to be defined by my ailment. Although I am aware of the limitations sickle cell gives me, I do not allow them to subvert my academics, hobbies, or overall determination.

I live with my parents and little sister in the town of Ajax, Ontario. I am currently an honour roll grade twelve student at Ajax High School. My favourite subjects are history and law; I enjoy studying human behaviour and past civilizations. It is this interest that sparked my desire to study politics.

I believe that politics is the oldest form of corruption, and I find that fascinating, to say the least. This year, I am planning to study political science at Carleton University in Ottawa. I also take French, creative writing, English, and Spanish at school. In my free time, I read, write, play video games, and enjoy hanging out with friends.
