My goal and aspiration since 1989 has been “to change and affect the lives” of those who are affected by Sickle Cell disease.

John Bunyan said, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who cannot repay you.”

The constant struggle of young adults juggling college, work, frequent visits to emergency rooms, and hospital admissions often makes me wonder how they manage to graduate and eventually achieve a career.

I am always inspired by the courage and strength this group of individuals exhibits. Although many young people in this population have lost their battle with life due to fatal complications, there are still many who are determined to reach their goals.

I will never give up on those who are determined to fight this disease!

The future for Sickle Cell disease patients is very promising, and hope is high for those of us working behind the scenes.

I praise the hands of everyone who is now on deck, playing every card—individually or collectively—in the hope of helping all Sickle Cell patients enjoy longevity and an improved quality of life.
