2019 Awards Special Report


The evening started with a sumptuous cocktail serving basked in the atmosphere of soothing background music courtesy of Ethan Flowers. The main event began with a warm welcome and introduction of the Masters of Ceremonies by Dotty Nicholas and Marie Samuel-Andrew.

The nostalgic David Smith and co-host Carlton Griffiths introduced the audience to a series of 
songs, liturgical dances, spoken words, greetings, speeches, saxophone and Steel Pan presentations, that will be long remembered.

Venus Brown opened the evening with an exquisite rendition of the Canadian National Anthem. This was followed by the Blessing of the dinner and the evening's proceeding by Pastor Ezariel Daniel. 

Patrick Walton opened the evening performances with a captivating saxophone rendition of "Great is thy Faithfulness". Sandy Lindo followed with a very powerful spiritual gospel song. 

Pastor Dalton Roach then read the first Greeting of the evening from His Worship John Tory, Mayor of Toronto.  This was followed by a
 heart warming inspirational spoken word presentation by Safia Mason. 

Neisha Edmond-Grey and Marlon Edward read the second greeting of the evening form Lloyd Wilks, Consul General of Jamaica. Greetings continued from Whitby City Councillor Maleeha Shahid, MPP Lorn Coe and MP John McKay. 

Loni Smith had the audience on the edge of their seats as she gave a presentation on " The Magic of Vegan". Evangelist Eldora Lewis, the Mahali Jackson of our time, kept everyone on their feet waving and dancing to the song,"Daystar".

The audience was served a sumptuous five course dinner complemented with the Jamaican Sorrell from the winery of Dotty Nicholas

The audience listened intently as Mr.Richard Langhorne delivered the Keynote address. The event was attended by several notable guests, including:- 

  • Gary Anandasangaree, Member of Parliament for Scarborough, Rouge Park, 
  • Mitzie Hunter, Member of the Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Guildwood, 
  • Michael Coteau Member of the Provincial Parliament for Don Valley North, 
  • Vijay Thanigasalam Member of the Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Rouge Park,
  • Lorn Coe Chief Whip of the Government of Ontario.
  • Dr. M. Hamid, Scarborough Health Network ( Centenary Site)
  • Dr. Hubert Wong, Scarborough Health Network ( Centenary Site)
  • Dr. Karen Chang, Scarborough Health Network ( Centenary Site)
  • R.N. Sandra Scarborough Health Network ( Centenary Site)
It was a memorable moment when scrolls were presented to all five scholarship recipients for their hard work and resilience by the Hon. MP Michael Coteau, and Vijay Thanigasalam. 

The Scholarship awards were presented by Pastor Orim Meikle, and lots of prizes and surprises were awarded throughout the evening.

The final performance of the evening by Londa Lorman brought all married couples to the dance floor as she sang "Perfect'" by Ed Sheeran. The evening ended with the vote of thanks from Dotty Nicholas and Marie Samuels.

This was a beautiful evening that will be long remembered by everyone present.

The Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Scholarship Fund Association is a registered Not-For-Profit benevolent organisation , owned and operated in Ontario Canada by Dotty Nicholas. The organization seeks to assist young people with sickle cell disease by sponsoring their higher education programs at local tertiary institutions in Canada.
