The Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Fund Association is committed to maintain a sustainable program to improve the “Quality of Life “of young adults with Sickle Cell Disease
- To advance education by providing publicly available scholarships to young adults with sickle cell disease to be used for post-secondary education.
- To advance education by providing instructional seminars, information sessions on lifestyle choices in sickle cell disease, thereby improving the quality of life of those affected by sickle cell disease in the community.
- To advance education by providing remedial reading programs for those affected with sickle cell disease in the community.
The Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Scholarship was established in March 2013, at her birthday celebration. The first scholarship was awarded in May 2013 at the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario Hope Gala to Ms. Tasha Addo.
Sickle Cell patients experience many health challenges that can be triggered by stress. This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance and to alleviate the demand that working and going to college/university makes on the lives of those affected by Sickle Cell disease. This scholarship is funded by sponsorship and fundraising.
Academic Requirements
Minimum requirements for consideration for all applicants are:
70 % G.P.A. over two years of full or part-time studies.
Must be in college or university at the time of application,
Scope of Scholarship
The scholarship will be $1, 000.00 to $5, 000.00 for each academic year based on available funding and the financial status of the applicant.
The scholarship will only be awarded to individuals with Sickle Cell disease.
The scholarship can be awarded to the same individual for two consecutive years.
The scholarship can be awarded to the recipient by the sponsor at the annual Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario Hope Gala.
