My name is Tega Aror and I graduated grade 12 in June, 2018. I received my OSSD, Ontario Scholar Status, Regional Arts Program certificate in Music, a Special High Skills Major certificate in Arts and Culture, 2 medallions (arts and scholarship), and an Excellence and Contribution in Music award. In the fall, I will be attending the University of Western Ontario in pursuit of a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in Voice.
When I first started grade 9, me and my family were very worried that my illness would hinder my success in high school. Yet, as the years went by, I began to see that as long as I believed in myself, worked hard, and took proper care of my health, I could achieve anything I wanted to. I firmly believe that no matter what situation one finds themselves in (physically or financially) that everyone deserves a chance to achieve their goals. I am very thankful to be a recipient of a Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Scholarship because not only did I receive financial support towards my post secondary education, but also a strong message of encouragement to never let life's obstacles get in the way of my dreams.
