My goal and aspiration since 1989, is “to change and affect the lives” of those who are affected with Sickle Cell disease. John Bunyan said “You have not lived today, until you have done something for someone who cannot repay you.” The constant struggle of young adults juggling college, work, frequent visits to emergency rooms, and hospital admissions, often makes me wonder, ‘how they get to that place of graduating and eventually achieving a career?’

I am always baffled by the courage and strength this group of individuals exhibits. Although there are a number of these young individuals from this population that lost the battle of life to fatal complications, there are still many who are determined to reach their goals. I will never give up on those who are determined to fight this disease.

The future for Sickle Cell disease patients is very promising and the hope is high for those of us who are working behind the scenes. I praise the hands of everyone that is now on deck, trumping every card, whether, individually or collectively, hoping to make all sickle cell patients enjoy longevity and an improved quality of life.
