Moments of Inspiration

A collection of thoughts, poems and songs by Elder Dotty Nicholas

Ayanna Joseph-Stanislaus (2017 Award Recipient)

MY name is Ayanna, I was diagnosed with sickle cell when I was six months old, ever snice then I have been determined not to be defined by my ailment. Although I am aware of the limitations sickle cell gives me, I do not allow them to subvert my academics, hobbies, and overall determination.

I live with my parents and little sister in the town of Ajax, Ontario. I am currently an honour roll grade twelve student at Ajax high school. My favourite subjects are history and law, I enjoy studying human behavior and past civilizations. It is this interest that sparked my desire to study politics.

I believe that politics is the oldest form of corruption, and I find that fascinating to say the least. This year, I am planning to study political science at Carleton University in Ottawa. I also take French, creative writing, English, and Spanish at school. In my free time I read, write, play video games, and enjoy hanging out with friends.
