My name is Isata Lakoh, I am 20 years old, and I am freshmen currently attending Sheridan College. I attended 4 full years of high school at Port Credit Secondary School graduating with a high school diploma an Advanced Learning Strategies Award that recognized my academic achievement and contribution to the school community.
While focusing on my studies, I was also able to donate my time to volunteering around the community nursing home in Mississauga, received a certificate of selflessness for donating money towards the Hospital for Sick Children, took part in an Ebola Fundraiser, displayed student art work at the HJA Brown Student Center for Black History Month, and helped participate and organize the 2015 Port Credit Art Show Gallery.
I am currently studying to become a social worker dealing with children and youth for me to use my ability to offer support towards the Sickle Cell community. After I graduate from the Sheridan College with my diploma, I plan to pursue my education in university to obtain my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in the field of social work. I am delighted to know I am one of the recipient of the Dotty Nicholas Sickle Cell Scholarship.
I promised to work hard so that I can be awarded another scholarship next year.
Thank you to the Scholarship Committee who are an integral part of this great cause.
